WHAT
NOT TO DO:
SUMMARY:
TWhen you're just getting involved in a network
marketing business it's so easy to start making
big mistakes. So a little research and preparation
can go along way. Doing so will save you months
of aggrivation and regrets later on. Here are:
The top 7 things NOT to do when
joining and starting to do MLM
STEP
#1: JOIN THE WRONG MLM: The number one biggest
mistake in doing MLM, that goes way beyond any
mistake any network marketer could EVER MAKE is
joining the wrong network marketing business.
There's a few reasons for this. Mainly, you might
work hard at it for months, if not years, and
then if the company was to go bankrupt you'd lose
your downline and you'd lose your commission check.
(caveat: oh by the way, we're not here to recommend
or push any company. That's not what we do. We
help build downlines for whichever company you're
currently doing, so you can see more on that by
clicking here.)
But
getting back to it, the MLM industry has a higher
rate of companies going bankrupt than most others.
So you have to be careful. Then there's various
other factors as well, such as: how much inventory
are you required to be buying to qualify for commissions,
does there compensation plan actually pay out
enough for you to get ahead, will you eventually
be able to retire off your work, or are you forced
to keep meeting different quotas and there is
"no out" later down the road. Can you
gift the business to your kids, or sell it? All
kinds of factors fall into place that you need
to carefully consider. The biggest one is how
long the company has been around for. Over 5 years
is better. Over 10 is even better still. Over
20 is excellent. So the number one thing is picking
the wrong MLM to get involved with. You could
end up wasting a lot of valuable time, money and
energy, only to find out months or years later
that it was a bad idea. So a little careful planning
in the beginning can save you tons of frustrations
later on.
STEP
#2: FOCUSING ON YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY: The
number one biggest problem that network marketers
run into is being told by well meaning uplines
that they should immediately go bugging their
friends and family to buy products and to join.
That's a very very bad idea in many cases. Here's
what you do, if you know someone who lets say
you don't get along with too well, and you're
okay with losing them as a friend or family member,
approach them. But bugging your friends and family
is a bad idea in most cases. In some cases it
has worked, don't get me wrong. But you have to
tread lightly. So for example, lets say a friend
says to you: "hey I heard you're doing a
business, I want to know about how it works and
get in?" So okay maybe you show them. But
avoid pressuring family and friends to join. They're
going to be with you years into the future, maybe
even long after your new venture has perhaps come
and gone. So don't damage your reputation in trying
to get them to join just because you want to try
and make more money. There's far easier ways to
build your downline like
this one. Because you'll either damage your reputation
and or end up getting alienated because people
hate your preaching your MLM business to them.
They don't get it. And that's okay! Find people
that get it, and that want to join you and get
ahead. And then if anything bad was to happen
like the company goes bankrupt, at least if you
got strangers involved, it's not going to ruin
your social life. But lets say you go friend and
family in. Well if the company goes bankrupt,
and they lose their shirts, well they'll blame
you! Because you got them into it! So be careful.
It took years to build those relationships up,
why ruin them over a venture that you can so easily
build with strangers, just as easy.
STEP
#3: PERFECT PLANS: Your friend MLM might fail.
So might your 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th, before you
finally hit on one that starts to really pay off.
It's okay. So don't over analyse it to the point
where you wind up in analysis paralysis. You just
need a reasonable business. A reasonable plan
and to start to take action on the plan. If you
plan for too long it could backfire. I know various
people in business that took too long in their
planning and it completely backfired. In business
"perfect" is the enemy of "getting
it done". You can't be a perfectionist. You
don't have time. You just have to find something
and get on with trying it. And if it fails, so
be it, move on and try another. But don't get
bogged down in over planning.
STEP
#4: SPENDING MONEY: When you're just starting
out, you need to be careful how much money you
spend on your business and in what areas you spend
it on. For example. If you're doing something
that helps promote the business and gives a good
return on investment, then that might be worth
spending on. For example if you can find a good
source of advertising that's bringing in new leads
and prospects, that's working for you, then run
with it. But on other things, like: business cards,
getting an office, buying a new suit or breifcase,
and doing things to try and feel important, are
essencially a waste of money. Don't let your ego
start running how you spend money. Don't use up
your savings and especially don't take out a loan
or rack up credit cards if you can avoid it. Try
and do things for as cheap as possible at first.
Then once you're making some money, then start
to reinvest some of your profits back into building
your business. So stop trying to figure out ways
to spend money. You don't need to redecorate your
office, buy a new laptop, buy this that and the
other thing that isn't going to matter. Don't
do that. You're goal is to make money, not spend
it! Remember that! So go out and make it. That
means you need warm bodies to sign on the dotted
line! That's your #1 priority, is to build a downline
and fast! Now we can help you to build
a downline and or you can work on developing
your own strategy. But focus on that and don't
waste money. Because once your out of money, you're
out of business in most cases.
STEP
#5: TRYING TO DO IT ON YOUR OWN: Try and get
all the help and support you possibly can. This
will increase your chances of success greatly!
Worth with your upline constantly. Network with
others in the business and find out what they're
doing. Start a weekly meetup group that will be
your meeting to "recruit". Start a weekly
training group, that will be the second meeting
that you use to train people that are already
in your downline. Because you'll get great ideas
from others, and often the connections you need
to get things done. Don't try and figure out everything
by yourself. Ask others in your network how to
do things. Ask, ask ask! For example, maybe one
of your downline or upline has an extra office
that they're not using on weekends that you could
borrow for free to hold your weekly recruitment
meetings in. Or maybe someone in your business
is great with computers and can show you a new
way of recruiting online. But the point is you
have to really cultivate your network of people
to have them help you to grow and build.
STEP
#6: RECRUITMENT: You need a system. It can
be any system. But you need some kind of a system
to recruit people. Then you need to work the system
diligently and consistantly. So for example one
simple way is this. You go to: meetup.com and
you start an "opportunity meetup" in
your area. You don't announce what company it
is that you're going to present. You just say
that people who come out will have a chance to
review a unique opportunity that could make them
extra income from home. You offer donuts and coffee
to help attract people to the meeting. It's amazing
how many people will come out just for the free
donuts and coffee. The donuts and the coffee are
basically the prop that locks them into staying
to hear your presentation. A small price to pay
to keep them listening. Then at the end you'll
get 1 of 2 things. Either A) you get new downline
members signing up, or you get B) new leads (names
and emails) to add to your prospects contact list,
which you'll follow up on later on. And through
enough follow ups you'll likely sign many of them
up later on. But again, you need a system in place.
Now we have a downline building
system you can use, or you can find someone
else's system. But you need something in place
that's going to work to recruit new people.
STEP
#7: GIVING UP: Now you joined a network marketing
company. And they've painted this rosey picture
about how great everything is going to be and
how much money you're going to make overnight.
So you're expectations are sky high. You think
everyone and anyone would have to be a fool to
not join your downline and get involved in this
amazing new revolutionary company that's going
to change the world. So then you go to present
it to someone. And they flat out reject you. Then
you're a bit shocked. But you keep trying, so
you present again, and again, you get a smile
a nod, and a NO! And you do this a handful of
times and no one is joining you and so you start
to give up, or you feel like giving up. You fail
to keep doing the little things like advertising,
setting up meetings, finding new prospects and
making things happen. Then you get distracted
by some other new company that has come around,
or you get distracted by any number of things
in life, and you quit. That's often what happens
to 95% of network marketers who quit. But the
fact is most businesses take a good 5 years to
even get off the launch pad. If you're able to
do it in 3 count yourself fortunate. And if you're
making any money by the end of year 1, that's
basically more often than not a flat out miricle.
Of course there are some overnight success stories
in business. Those are the ones that make the
headlines. But that's not the norm. The norm is
that it really does take a lot of time and consistant
effort to get something going. So again, give
it time. Don't give up too quickly. Give it at
least a solid effort for a good year, and then
re-evaluate. If by the end of year one it's just
not working out well maybe then you start to refocus
on what other options you have. But to give up
in just 30, or 90 days or 180 days is often rather
premature. Often all you need is one new recruiting
method or some new strategy that can bring your
MLM business back to life and get it working again.
Now again as I mentioned, we have a strategy to
help grow your MLM business, and since you're
here you should at least take a look at it. To
